"Default User Profile" Missing

Noticed on one of the workstations - the "Default User" profile is missing.

How do I recover?
 
I created a local account today - however I have not logged into the
workstation with this account. (workstation is in production)

This is a replacement workstation (profiles from the old workstation have
been copied to the new one) I suspect that this is what caused the issue, the
account may have been deleted or overwritten.
 
I'm still waiting to learn what happens when you create a new user
account on the affected computer.
