Default Styles

Where should styles be changed, i.e. paragraph spacing, justification, etc? I
have been changing the normal.dot but have read that this is not where
everything should be changed.
I would like to have a default firm template that appears instead of the
blank document but don't know how to go about making the changes. Any help or
guidance you can give me will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for all you help and assistance.

I set styles in custom document templates. It is possible to have templates
update their styles from yet another template or file upon creating a new
document so that you only set them in one place. See
http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step instructions
on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations including
AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros, etc. See
http://addbalance.com/word/stylesheet.htm for more on sharing styles.

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CustomizeNormalTemplate.htm for
tips and cautions. It sounds as if what you want is a document template.
Don't even think of trying to substitute it for Normal.dot. Although there
are ways to make Word open with a document based on your template, it's
usually simpler just to put a shortcut to the template on your desktop; or,
if you have several document templates, make it easy to get to the File New
dialog so you can choose the appropriate one.
