Is it possible to change the default setting in Word 2002 SP3 so that Outlook
Express opens up instead of Outlook?

One way to do that is: Bring up Internet Explorer, select Tools > Internet Options> then select the Programs Tab.
Select the drop down list for Email. Change O.E. to Outlook.

Hi,

Maurice is quite right although I think he meant change it from Outlook to
O.E. You will also want to open Outlook Express, go to Tools//Options and on
the "General" tab click on "Make Default".

Best wishes,
Ed

Leon,
Another way to accomplish this: From the main Start menus, select "Set program access and defaults".

20-Mar-06.

Just noticed this post. It may be a bit late now to get in on this thread
but thought
I'd try.

My problem is, never did fathom O. & O.E. and the difference between them;
worse, not sure why I'd use them rather than, say, hotmail (well, I do,
actually, to some extent anyway).

What I'd like to confirm, though, is if it is necessary to contact the
Service Provider (our local Telekoms here) in order to sign up (and pay for)
some kind of special e-mail account with which we can use O. or O.E. Or can
the latter also be used in
other situations (for free)?

Dumb questions, I know; but that's how it goes when you've been stuck in the
jungle for most of the time as the world went by...

Your ISP should already provide a mailbox with your account. Check their
support/help site for info on setting up Outlook or OE so you can download
your messages to either without having to go to their site. Using either
does not infer any extra costs.

Roger and thanx for that, Wesley and Brian.

At moment in Songkhla, Thailand, staying for while at friend's place. Has a
v. small
home net and got new printer/scanner that brings up Outlook (Express, I
think) to
scan direct to e-mail. Neither one of us knows much about OE and thought
could scan to "hotmail" instead (I realize now that that was a dumb idea!).

The home net was installed some time ago by seller of the 3rd (new) comp.
It's on
a LAN and the fellow who set it up (and is not currently available) also
arranged for one of those low-cost monthly-rate permanent broadband type
connections to
Internet.

That all works reasonably well but neither one of us here has much
experience with nor knowledge on the subject. It's coming along, though, bit
by bit (largely via online help from good folks like yourselves).

I presume the new comp is the Server whose modem keeps us online. This
not being the "dial-up" type connection I'm used to, I can't even seem to
find
any "properties" for this broadband connection via the usual "Internet
Options" route. There's no "Connection" listed there. I haven't seriously
looked into this
yet as we've been fairly busy and also battling some other, more pressing
little
flies in the ointment.

In any case, I will have him do as you all suggest. And thanks for all those
links
on the subject. Will get onto all that ASAP.

Really appreciate it.

Ted,

There are some free mail services that do not allow the use of OE, you have
to use there pay versions for that option. I do not remember any brand
names, however.

I think that this one covers Thailand.

Meridian Telekoms, Inc.

There web site is a POS, I'll let you look around it.

Email them and ask about Outlook Express:
