When writing letters in Word, auto corrections are made
in English US. I have gone into tools on word and changed
the default to English UK on numerous occasions, but
every time I go back to write another letter etc., the
auto correct has reset itself to English US. Now not
wanting to underestimate the values of the American
version of our lingo, I need to be able to work without
constantly having to change the default, and check
spellings are UK versions.
Can anyone advise me on how best to change this setting
once and for all.
Many thanks,

Doesn't Word's Autocorrect work on a translation table, which you can
modify to be whatever you want, on the Tools menu?

If this doesn't work, first read about Autocorrect in Word's Help, and
if this doesn't help, then check on the newsgroups for Word.

Hello Billy,

What version of Word are you using?

If it's Word 97, click on Tools --> Language --> Set Language.

Select English (British) and then click the Default radio button on the
bottom of the Language dialog box.

You'll receive a message asking if "you want to change the default language
to English (British)?"

Answer Yes.

Hi again Billy,

The process for setting the default language to English (UK) in Word 2000
(and I suspect Word XP) are the same as I gave for Word 97 in my previous
rely:

On the Tools menu, point to Language, and then click Set Language.

In the Mark selected text as list, select the language you want -- in your
case English (U.K.).

Click the Default radio button and answer Yes.

Greetings --

Have you tried opening a blank document, setting the language as
desired, and then saving the changes to the Normal.Dot template?
(File > Page Setup > Default...) If that doesn't work, you'll
probably have better luck in a Word news group.
