Somehow my default homepage has disappeared and something
called PassThisOn has taken its place. When I click on
tools and then internet option, I am unable to remove the
passthison address and place my old homepage address. Is
there a fix for this?

Thanks

Go to www.lavasoftusa.com and get Adaware (freeware). It will remove
whatever hijacked your browser. After you run Adaware, don't forget to
change your home page BEFORE going back online or you may end up having to
do it again. HTH.

Definitely get Adaware like the other poster said. Also, in IE or from the
control panel goto internet options, tools, programs, and click the "reset
web settings" button.

Get Spybot, Search and Destroy too.

I already have AdAware on my hard drive, but it did not
solve the problem. Also, went into internet options like
you suggested, but I am unable to reset IE to the default.
The reset web settings remains in a "dull light blue"
color so that I cannot click on it. It is the same
problem when I try to change the home page address under
General in Internet Properties.

Did you run Spybot?

I think Adaware will remove this. Do you have the latest reference file?
Anyway, There may be something called "reg.hta" in your startup folder that
keeps changing it back. I am posting below something I cut and pasted from a
Google article. It involves editing the registry and I did not test it. TRY
AT YOUR OWN RISK!
---begin paste---
In Regedit, navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control
Panel

In the right-hand pane, right-click the "HomePage" value, then select
Modify. Change it to: 00 00 00 00

Also change either or these to zero 0 instead of 1 if present:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explo
rer] - DWORD "NoSetHomePage"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Restrictions] - DWORD "NoSetHomePage"=dword:00000001

If you don't have this key, browse to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

and in the right hand pane, double click "Local Page" and set equal to
"C:\WINDOWS\System\blank.htm" (no quotes) which will hopefully set your Home
Page to blank and then allow you to subsequently modify it using Internet
Options.

Exit regedit and reboot.

When you reboot, you should be able to change the home page again.

Some pages will also download a program which keeps changing it back. Go to
Start | Run and type:
msconfig
and press <Enter> or click OK. Go to the Startup tab.
See if you can identify any suspicious programs. If you can, uncheck it, If
you can't, change the home page to what you want and then uncheck one and
then reboot. Try IE. If the Web page changed, change it back and then try
msconfig again, rechecking the last one and unchecking the next. Keep doing
this until you find the culprit.
---end paste---
Good luck
