Riddle me this. If not a virus, the what could cause your
home page to automatically change to "about:blank?" Here
is the situation. I set my home page
to "http://www.yahoo.com/," and then clicked on apply. As
long as Internet Explorer is open my home page will stay
the way I set it, but as soon as I close Internet Explorer
and re-open it, the home page has changed back
to "about:blank." This problem just came up yesterday.
Until then I did not have any problems. My first thought
was the Deutsche Telekom DSL Speed Manager I installed was
the culprit, but I have since uninstalled that program and
the problem still persists. Thinking it might help, I
went to Microsoft Updates and downloaded the latest
Internet Explore patch. That did not help. As soon as I
pressed the scan for updates link, Microsoft notified me
that I had a spyware program installed on my machine, and
one of the things they claimed these programs might do is
change your home page. So, I immediately uninstalled my
spyware program, that is after I ran it one last time to
see if there was anything on my system that might be
causing the problem, which there wasn't. After each
change I would reboot, but that did not help either. I
also tried setting my Norton Firewall and Internet Privacy
options to medium, but that has also not helped.
Previously, they were set to high and block all, which
seemed to not be a problem before. So, needless to say I
am at wits end. I don't know what else to do except
uninstall Explorer. Do you have any idea what could be
causing the problem. Besides under tools, internet
options, general, home page, where else can a home page be
set, if at all, as the default for Explorer?
