Hi there..
I would like to know whether .rtf format can be opened with microsoft words
by default straight after installation. Or whether .rtf format file will
still be opened by wordpad even after microsoft words installation. Thank you
for any info on this matter.

Word installation will configure the registry to open RTF files by default.
You can still open them with Wordpad by right clicking the file in Windows
Explorer and choosing the option to open with RTF. You can reset the
registry entry from Windows Explorer to open RTF with Wordpad, but Word will
contrive to reclaim its settings.

Word should be assigned as the default program for rtf documents.
You may launch Word first, then open the rtf document from the File menu.

You may also set Word as the default program for rtf documents manually:

* Open My Computer, then
if you are using Win ME, 2000 or XP : Tools >> Folder Options.
if you are using Windows other than these : View >> Folder Options.
* Under the File Types tab, search for 'rtf' under the Extensions column.
* Then under the Details for 'RTF' extension, click the Change button, then
choose Microsoft Word for Windows
