We have set the default font to optima, but it doesn't seem to take. Any
editing that we do within an existing document it comes in as times new
roman. Any editing in a new blank doc comes in the same way.

Optima is not a well known font, but if we specifically highlight the text,
we can change it to optima. Help

Modify the Normal style, check the ADD TO TEMPLATE check box to Yes, and then
change the paragraph font to Optima.

The change in default font affects only NEW documents based on Normal.dot;
it has no effect on existing documents (see
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/templaterelations/index.html). If you want
to change the default for those, you'll have to change the font of the
Normal style in the document. See
