Hi
I accidentally deleted my account and thus the encrypted files associated with it cannot be decrypted anymore. I am not sure whether the private key is still there somewhere. How do I check if the private key associated to my account is there and how do I retrieve it? I am not an expert on computers so I will only understand simple instructions

thanks very muc

Before you encrypt anything important, you should back up your
personal encryption certificate (with its associated private key)
and the recovery agent certificate to a floppy disk and store it in
a secure location. If you ever lose your original certificate
(because of a hard disk failure, for example), you can restore
the backup copy and regain access to your files. If you lose all
copies of your certificate (and no recovery agent certificates exist),
you won't be able to use your encrypted files. No back door exists,
nor is there any practical way to hack these files.
(If there were, it wouldn't be very good encryption.)

Without a backup of the original Encryption Certificate Key, encrypted files
are unrecoverable as they will stay encrypted forever. There is no recovery
method since the encryption algorithm is now completely different with a
reinstall of Windows XP.

because you used that spy stuff...encryption......you deserve all that you
don't get from it....
and ...
your welcome...

Hey folks..

He's encrypted some important "stuff" before he knew how to use
encryption......very good....

And now he's DEMANDING to get help....also, very good..

Well...if you were smart enough to use encryption...you definitely made
non-encrypted backups and placed this IMPORTANT stuff in a safe
place,...just re-load the non-encrypted version...

Oh, sure hope this wasn't work related stuff, and you boss wants it
now....ROFLMAO.....

Hey, let us know how this complete cluster-&%$# comes out....OK....

Peter;
If you did not back-up the keys, you data is most likely forever gone.
If you can recover your profile, you MAY be able to recover the data:

You are probably better off looking locally and getting a reputable
shop to follow the proper procedures.
Again this will only work if you can recover the original profile.

Marty and Ferris. I pity your posts. They are obviously a token of inferiority. And mind your own business please. I was talking to the MVPs NOT YOU. OK? So please do not pollute my world with more thoughts that belong to the trash can

Btw, if Microsoft cannot make software that works properly, that is a fault of Microsoft and not of the user. I figured that you needed only the password for the user profile, just as I need only the password when I use PGP (with the classic encryption) - you should not have to be an guru on Windows to be able to use it. Much of what Microsoft does is a disgrace and serves only to get Gates rich so he can be "so kind" to donate money he has got through selling bad software. In this case it has cost me a lot. Perhaps Gates should be so kind to say that it is the USERS of Windows who donate all the money (from pain from bad software).
