Once in a while, one of my XP SP2 systems will freeze. Screen and
windows intact and visible. No mouse or keyboard. No events in event
queue.

I've tested ram and run low-level tests on the main hard drive
partitions.

Anyone know of any other way to pin this down? I can't predict when it
will occur, and the system often runs fine for days.

Same happened to one of my systems (1GB of RAM) a while ago. As a long
shot in the dark, I removed the two RAM modules, cleaning the slots and
swapping the position of both modules while complying with the ESD guide-
lines (Electrostatic Sensitive Devices). Problem solved.

RAM testing software does not detect thermic or sporadic failures.

Could be anything including power supply failure or overheating. Only
this is for sure: it's not a Windows issue.
