I'm trying to move my WindowsXP Upgrade from one computer
to another. It's an OEM version that I bought online.
I've been on the phone with customer support, activation
dept, and then back to customer support. The only issue
that got resolved is to pay the $35 for the incident and
we'll tell you how to do it.

I'm tired of companies not supporting their product!

Does anyone know if this deactivation can be done without
Microsoft confusing issues?

Thanks!

John

An OEM version is tied forever to the first PC on which it is installed...
and cannot ever be activated on another PC even if uninstalled from the
first. It's one of the several limitations of purchasing an OEM product.

John;
Microsoft does support their product.
However you chose to buy OEM
OEM is normally permanently tied to the first computer installed and
can never be transferred regardless the condition of original
computer.
You need to look at OEM as if it is manufactured, distributed and
supported by the seller and NOT Microsoft.
Read the EULA you agreed to for details.
Any questions or problems should be directed to the seller and not
Microsoft.
Some of the many reasons you pay less for OEM than retail.

......an OEM version that I bought online......
Did you buy the computer 'with' the OEM online or just
the OEM software?

Again not to cause a debate as a previous string about
oem earlier. Oem Disks can be easily purchased online at a
regular computer store in the past this has really never
been a major issue for most people that have little
knowledge about between the diffrence between retail and
oem are now encountering problems like this.
Solution is to pay the $35 dollar thing and pass along
info to friends about oem and retail buy retail and not
oem.
