Deactivate URL links

Hi,

If I have an Excel s/s that contains multiple fields with
live URL links, is there a way to deactivate the link? I'm
working with such a s/s presently, and its frustrating as
I inadvertently trigger URL links constantly!!

Select an unused cell and paste its format onto the hyperlink/s

Or, right clik on the hyperlink, click edit, then on the
bottom left is remove link.

It works for me (Office 2K and Win98SE) and I've suggested a few times and
not known it not work. I use Format Painter, rather than Paste/Format, but
the result should be the same.

This doesn't appear to work? Did exactly as requested -
but hyperlinks remain active .....

If I copied an empty cell, and paste special|Values, then the hyperlink was
removed. But if I just pasted special|formatting, the cell lost its hyperlink
style (formatting), but the link was still there and operable.

(tested with xl2002)
