After screen has started you can not deactivate to get back into windows. The
only way to get into windows power down and restart. Is there a work around
or correction for this problem, I'm running SP4 and latest updates.
If your screen saver continues to get to get stuck like that, see
if you can use Ctrl-Alt-Del to get to the Task Manager and kill
the screen saver from there. Not a solution, but it beats
restarting.
Set the screen saver to something different and see if it makes a
difference. A badly written screen saver can conceivably ignore
all of the keyboard and mouse events that are supposed to
deactivate it. I have seen a screen saver that lets the user
pick which events to deactivate upon - and the damned thing
actually made it possible for the user to deselect *both*
keyboard and mouse events.
Lastly, find out if you have other apps scheduled to run when the
screen saver is active - things like defraggers, anti-virus
scans, etc. Sometimes apps like that will effectively run as the
actual screen saver, and then they will run as a secondary
process the eye-candy that you thought you had selected as the
screen saver.
