.DBX files

1. In OE, Click on File and then Import
2. Click on Messages from the menu that appears
3. The Outlook Express Import box will appear. Click on Outlook Express 6
and click Next
4. The Import from OE6 box will appear. Click on the "Import mail from an
OE6 store directory" option and click OK
5. The Location of Messages box appears. Click Browse. The Browse for Folder
box appears.
6. Navigate to where you stored your backup Outlook Express folder. Click OK
and Next.
7. Your emails are now importing.
 
This technique loads my current Outlook Express folders
with a repeat of what is already there, in spite of
clicking on the folder where the .dbx files are stored. I
could copy these .dbx files to a more friendly location if
that could be identified.
 
Sandy, where are you back up .dbx files?
You should have been able to navigate to them via the Browse button.
If you have saved them to a floppy, put them in My Documents.

That would be because the folder where your dbx files is stored does not
contain a file called folders.dbx. What you need to do is this:

In OE create folders with EXACTLY the same names as the ones you want to
import. Open each one, but do NOT put anything in them.
Close OE
In Windows Explorer, copy the files you want to import into your OE
store folder location. (To find out where that is, in OE go to Tools-
Options-Maintenance-Store Folder)
When prompted to "Do you want to Replace/Overwrite etc etc" say "Yes to
All"
Open OE and all your folders should be there.

Tip- when you make a copy or backup of your store folder, ALWAYS make
sure you have copied or backed-up the file called Folders.dbx.
 
Hi Sandy,

Copy the .dbx file to the hard drive in a location of your choosing. Open
Outlook Express, click tools/options/maintenance tab. Click on the 'store
folder' button, use the 'change' function to select the files you just
copied over. When you click 'ok', you will be prompted to import them over
the existing mail store.
