dateTimePicker, minDate/maxDate properties

Why does the following produce a Run Time error (35772) - 'An invalid
date was specified for the minDate property.'?

dtPicker1.MinDate = Date

We're using Access 2002, SP2 and can confirm that the file,
MSCOMCT2.OCX , is present in the windows\system32 folder.
