Date in a template

I have a template that I use which includes my address, a
clipart image and the date, it is setup as my stationary.
When the template opens up the date is set to the current
date. After I complete the document and save it with "Save
AS", and then reopen it a few days later, the date is no
longer the date that the document was created but rather
the date it has now been opened. I know/hope there is a
switch somewhere that locks the date at the time you save
it so that when you refer back to the document, it
displayes the date it was created.

In your template, press Alt-F9 to display field codes. The field code for
your date will be either a DATE or a TIME code. Change that to a CREATEDATE
code. Press Alt-F9 again to hide the field codes. This will fix the problem
for future documents.

You can do the same thing in your old documents except when you finish, with
the field selected, press F9 to update the field. This will set the date
back to the date the document was created.

Thank you Charles for your fast and accurate reply to my
little problem. It has been annoying me for the last 5
years and today I thought I would just post a question and
maybe I could get an answer. After 5 years of living with
this very minor annoyance, I can thank you for solving the
problem in just a matter of a 2 hour wait. I appreciate it.

You are welcome. Bugged me for a long time, too. Then, I suspect I posted a
question on these newsgroups and someone else clued me in.
