Date changes to formula when entered in a cell

I'm using Excel 2002. When I type a date, it changes the cell to the
formula and it changes what I typed to something else.

Example:

I type "8/25/2006" without the quotes. I hit enter and it changes to
"=8/25/2006" in the forumla bar. But the cell displays "1/0/1900".

I'm sure there is a setting causing this. Can someone help me?

Thanks,
Paul

Try:

tools|Options|Transition tab|Uncheck Transition formula entry

In fact, I'd suggest unchecking all those Lotus 123 settings on that dialog.

Go into Tools>Options>Transition and uncheck the Lotus options like

Transition formula evaluation and Transition formula entry.

Thanks Dave,

That worked now that someone told me to do that. But the funny thing is, I
only just checked that option in my attempt to fix this issue. But now that
I uncheck it, it works again. Weird. Anyway, it works now.

Thanks again,
Paul
