Date as page footer

I tried using page setup to insert the current date as a footer to my word
document, I could not find the option to do this.

Is there any way to insert a date at the bottom as a footer, (date that does
not change - so I could just input it manually)?

Thanks for your help.

Select VIEW HEADER/FOOTER.
You can either use INSERT AUTOTEXT from the Header/Footer menus, enter the
date manually or use the INSERT Date and Time commands.

You do this by looking at the Header/Footer under the View menu. Once there,
you have a number of options. I often use a CreateDate field in the footer
of my document template (not normal.dot). See
http://addbalance.com/word/datefields1.htm for information on the different
kinds of datefields and how to format them.

Although there are buttons on the Header and Footer toolbar to insert the
date and time, these insert DATE or TIME fields that update automatically. I
believe these are not what you want. The keyboard shortcut Alt+Shift+D also
inserts a DATE field. Again, this is not what you want.

If you want to insert the current date, in a format that will not change
when you later open the document, you need a CREATEDATE field. If you insert
this field in the header or footer of a template (*not* Normal.dot; see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CustomizeNormalTemplate.htm), the
template will always have the date it was created, but every new document
you create based on the template will have the date it was created (this
does not update automatically, however; you have to press F9 to update it).

To insert the CREATEDATE field, use the Insert | Field dialog, which also
allows you to choose the date format (for more on that, see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/DateFields.htm). If you want to use
the CreateDate field in all sorts of documents and do not want to create a
specific document template, insert the field once, in a header or footer,
then select it and create an AutoText entry (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/AutoText.htm). Since you have
created this entry in the Header or Footer style, it will be available from
the AutoText menu on the Header and Footer toolbar.
