I work in the plumbing trade in uk and finding it hard to find a basic
database to use without all the americanised terminology. I've been trying to
adapt and creating my own but i am no I.T expert Need a database without
all the manufactureing data and something that will help tie my own data into
the self assesment tax system.TOO many software programs give either all
financial and small attention to supplies and other areas of day to day
operations.I susspect the first person to create a template or program aimed
at the tradesmen in the uk would make a tidy profit or more

Hi,
I know how frustrating it is to try and find software that works the way you
want it to. I never have been

If all you need is accounting stuff, the ability to track inventory and
assign expenses to a job (I think it's called "Job Costing" by some) you
might want to take a look at Peachtree Accounting.

I am not associated with Peachtree Accounting or Sage Software nor have I
received any compensation from Peachtree Accounting or Sage software for
this suggestion.

I have, however, been using it for the past 10 years or more.

Regards,

Mike

Actually MYOB or Quicken will do this quite nicely and at a low cost. You
should also have a look at www.cliksoftware.com. It's a UK program designed
for the aircon industry but easily adapted to other small
traders/subcontractors.

For financial management, invoicing, check writing and taxes - we won't build
a new Access database and instead we recommend QuickBooks by Quicken which is
intended for small businesses. (The Quicken product by Quicken is just a
checkbook system for homeowners) No need to reinvent that wheel.

However for inventory, generating quotes, tracking project time, etc. Access
would be ideal.

Admittedly you have two non-integrated systems. But it is manageable.
