Database size fluctuation.

I am assisting a customer with two different systems, one
a windows 2000 system running Office 2000 and a Windows XP
system running Office XP. We have an in house application
that creats a database through DAO from data that is run
through a simulation. The Access XP system generates a
400MB database that compacts down to 110MB, the Access
2000 system generates a 150MB file that compacts down to
130MB from the same data simulation. Some of our
simulations are approaching the 2 gig limit of access and
this may cause issues as simulations get larger. I guess
what I need to know is 1)if there is a way to compact a
database as it is being generated. 2)if there is a
difference in the overall size of databases created on
different systems. 3)is there any way to compare the
databases to see that they are generating the same data
under the simulation program. I guess the latter is the
most important, the size difference is great enough to
make me think something may be getting lost in the
process. Does anyone know of any documentation which may
enlighten this situation how different versions of access
handle data?
TIA
George

Hi George,

See the following KB article:
