When tring to intsall software occassionally get an error
message saying "Data1.cab" is not functional or
corrupted. What does this mean. Two programs that have
done this is Adobe reader and Itunes for my Ipod.

Software that you download is typically compressed so that it will download
more quickly. The compressed files are stored in one or more 'archives'.

Microsoft created its own type of archive, called a 'cabinet', which has
come into widespread use. Cabinets use the .cab extension. Data1.cab is
probably the first in a series of archives.

Occasionally, the compressed data inside an archive doesn't make it to your
computer in one piece. Hey, if you had to travel through all those miles of
network cables, you might not be in such good shape either. If a cabinet is
damaged in transit, the software probably won't install properly, if it
installs at all.

The thing to do when this happens is to download the software a second time
and start the install over.
