Data recovery software

I thought that files which are "deleted" from a system can actually be recovered if they have not been overwritten or the drive reformatted.

Anyone have any suggestions for freeware that can do this?

Bob, I don't know if this is the specific software you're referring
to, but the link you gave is also 3MB :/

OT: If your download manager only downloads a "small" EXE file, the
contents of the file may actually only be a redirect to the site for
the actual 3MB file.

Yes, it's 1.3mb, fits on a FDD. Perfect for file recovery. That way you
don't risk writing on the disk from which you need to recover files.

All I know is the file I have. It's called "Filerecovery.exe", and is
1.297mb.

Thanks Bob.
It appears we're looking at different versions, or entirely
different software.
(Though by different authors, the files might saved under the same
"filerecovery" name :)

I have since found a 1.297mb (1328128) 'filerecovery.exe' file at
http://www.4sages.com/ which "appears" to be PC INSPECTOR 3.0. I
don't as yet know why the file sizes are different :\
