data loss after install of windows on new drive

I just purchased a new larger hard drive to use for storage. I copied all of my music, movies, media ... files to it so i could free up space on my main drive. I then bought another new HD to use as my main drive. So i installed windows on to the new drive. After it was installed and running it restarted and check disk ran. It started scanning my large storage drive and said something about orphaned files. Now almost all of those files are gone. Whats the deal? Can those files be recovered somehow? Thanks.

I've had the same problem. This seems to be a serious problem with Windows using HDs over 137GB. MS, please take note and fix it before it destroys any more data

You might be able to try System Restore (Start/ Programs/ Accessories/ System Tools/ System Restore). I've seen it mention undoing the changes it made on my disk, but I saw it too late for it to undo the changes on mine

Well MS did fix it. Its to do with LBA. It needs
to enabled in the BIOS, and there's a writeup
on Microsoft's site somewhere.
