Data file "mailbox -(username) was not closed properly

I have one user who runs office 2003, which whenever he opens outlook gets
the message in the title. He has run all windows / office updates. When he
accesses his mail from a workstation (off 2.3k) the message does not appear,
it's only when he uses his notebook.

Any ideas where to start?

It's possible he has something on the laptop that keeps Outlook open until
