Sorry if this is a bit off topic. I'd like the answer from the point of
view of resident of USA and using xp computer only to burn disks..

1. Is there a downside (outside of cost) to use a "music cd" to burn data?

2. Is there any advantage to buying a music cd to burn music? Or downside
to using a "data cd" do burn music.

Thanks!

The only time you ever MUST use Audio CDRs is when you are using a
standalone CD Recorder, usually hooked up to a stereo system. These
CDRs have encoding on them necessary to make them work in that sort of
recorder. A normal CDR won't work in it.

You can use either in your computer CDRW drive, but you are wasting
money if you buy the Audio ones as they cost more.

Basically, when using the Audio CDRs you are kicking money back to the
RIAA. Screw them. Use regular CDRs in your computer recorder.

I've read that the Audio only burners & CDs also employ some variation
of SCMS copyprotection.

No

None. All that 'music CDs have is a code on them to allow them to be
used in 'domestic' CD audio recorders - otherwise they function exactly
as regular CDs do. If you are using a PC burner, save your money
