could someone please tell me an easy way to darken or shade every
other row in excel and also how to print it the same way. i know that
i can change this line by line, but this is very time consuming.
i think im getting old..lol the lines seem to run together as
i look across the sheet.....any help would be appreciated

Thanks again

Thanks for the above info which is very helpful, I've done this
manually for years.

Do you know of a way to modify the formula so it only works on visible
rows? Sometimes I'll filter my print range for one paramater or
another and still want to shade every other visible row with the
unfiltered items being hidden but still in the range.

Thanks
John

Hi
interesting qustion :-)
Try:
- select your range (I assume you start in A1)
- in the conditional format dialog enter the following formula:
=MOD(SUBTOTAL(3,$A$1:$A1),2)=0
