Dancing Cursor

I've had this problem for a while and just ignored it, but lately it has
gotten worse and it is really, REALLY annoying.

When typing in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and when typing on the
Internet (like right now) for some reason, the cursor jumps all over the
screen and the screen scrolls up and down on its own. This causes you to type
words incorrectly, have no spaces, etc. It actually makes entering a simple
username and/or password a huge task that lasts at least a minute b/c you
can't figure out where the mistake in the password is and you have to keep
starting over and re-typing. At any rate, I'd like to know if there is
anything that can be done to resolve this issue? I haven't tried much at this
point b/c I just don't know where to start or where to look. Any suggestions?

Bump

Nope - not using a laptop and there is no touchpad device on this keyboard.
Replacing the mouse is the one and only thing I have done, but that didn't
fix the problem. I didn't really think it was the problem to begin with b/c
if you hold the mouse so it doesn't move, the typing cursor jumps all over
the page. My Dad (who happens to have the exact same comp as I do) has the
same problem.

Any other ideas?
