I have replaced the base on my laptop and when I tried to remove the coa of
the old base it has fallen to bits. It says oem product on it.
How do I get a replacement? How much is a replacement and will the
replacement have the same key code?

You'll have to contact the manufacturer of the laptop. It is unlikely that
the keyfinder program others have suggested will help you unless Windows was
reinstalled at some point. Most laptops have a factory image with a special
factory key that does not need activation installed on the hard drive. If
you use that key to reinstall Windows you will not be able to activate it.
If you reinstall Windows you have to use the key on the coa for activation
to work.

If you carefully peice it together, Can you read it at all? What might
work is to place it face down on some transparent tape. It'll be a
delicate operation.

Download and install Belarc Advisor from http://www.belarc.com/.
It will provide both the license number and Product Key for your
Windows XP. Although it may be a different Product Key from the
one that was attached to the base of the laptop, this Product Key
should also be functional. The reason for the difference is that
OEM's install OS's by using image files instead of individually
installing it to each computer.
