I have a new laptop and am trying to save a word document
to the CD Drive. First question...I don't have a 3 1/2"
floppy drive so I am going under the assumption that
saving to the CD Drive is the same as how I previously
would save to the floppy drive. Also, when I try to save
to this drive it says that I don't have access to this
drive, please contact the administrator to access. I am
the only person who runs this computer. Any help would be
great!!!
Thanks

Actually, you should never use Word to save directly to any type of
removable media, as it is likely to cause corruption. Instead, always save
to hard drive, and then COPY the file to the disk/cd/etc.

Also, CDs are NOT like floppy disks, and the programs that are out there to
make them behave like floppy disks can also make them unreliable.

When you copy to the CD, depending on your computer, you might have to use
different software to burn the file to the CD rather than doing it directly
from Windows. Windows help should tell you how to copy to Cd or burn a CD
or something like, assuming your laptop has a CD-R drive. Look there. If
you can't find it, look for a newsgroup dealing with Windows and ask there,
being sure to mention OS version.

NEVER save directly from Word to a CD. Save to your hard disk then burn to
the CD.

In any case, does your laptop have a CD burner or just an ordinary CD drive?
If the latter, you can't save ANY files to the CD, from Word or any other
program, because ordinary CD drives are read-only. If it's a burner then
your laptop will have some special software for the purpose. Some machines
do provide a kind of automatic burning so it appears that you can copy files
directly to the CD -- but don't try it from Word.
