cyrptographi services and windows update

I am trying to download windows update however when on the microsfot page it says something about how it can't be downloaded. I have spent most the day troubleshooting and at times can at least start the download. however when I open the downloaded file to install it says something about not being able to validate sime files intrgety like install.inf and to make sure cryptographic services are running?
