CWS removal killed searching from address bar

I had one of those stupid programs that takes over your home page and other IE
settings. It changes the home page to res://mshp.dll...

I used CWSshreder and adaware to remove it. My homepage stays set properly now
even after rebooting, but it has caused another problem I can't seem to fix:

I usually do all my searches by typing "? search terms" in the address bar. Now
it tries to go to http:///? search terms

In the advanced settings, seaching from the address bar is set to display
results in the main window. I have downloaded the registry entries from google
that should reset the address bar searching, but that didn't work. Neither does
changing the search settings to another provider.

Does anyone have any suggestions to fixing this?

Additionally, internet explorer keeps freezing, especially when opening a new
window. It unfreezes itself after about 30 seconds, so I'm thinking that maybe
it's not completely removed.

Did you first seek updated reference files for Ad-Aware before you used it
the time? Do so before each use, even "right out of the box".

I've been using it for several months, and update it every time I use it.

HijackThis will find and eliminate the five registry entries made. It will
also clear your Search options.

From there, use Customize to choose accordingly. If you are needing or
wanting direct registry input, let me know.

Other than that, the 20%'s means there are spaces in the name and are
needing underscores. Thus the entry is not "computer correct". :o)

In the meantime and in lieu of more troubleshooting, rename your host file
and good luck:
Go to Windows\System32\DRIVERS\etc and rename hosts.

Thank you very much. I found the correct method to remove it, and I'm 99% sure
that it is gone, but I am still having 10-20 second lockups in all my programs
now, where the program keeps running (eg, in my movie player the video keeps
playing perfectly) but it won't respond to any input, I can't even select it on
the task bar.

And I still can't search. I've installed the google toolbar as a temporary
substitute, but I'd really like to fix this.

You are most welcome, Grant. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Grant,

Set IE Search to Default (Line 229)

If that doesn't help:

Thank you so much! The registry entries on kelly's korner fixed it right up.
