Other than audacity, what freeware is available for cutting up a sound
file please ? Suppose one has recorded an LP as a single .wav file.

In particular I am looking for something that can go to a set start
and end point eg.

Start 9:14 End 11.33

Something easier/better than just a slider. IF such a thing exists.

Regards, John.

I downloaded Anvil yesterday for editing midi files, but I believe I
read that it will edit .wav files as well. You might want to check it
out at www.AnvilStudio.com. There is a freeware version, and it's
pretty powerful.

Have you checked there isn't a plugin for Audacity that does this?

Also..you can set 'tabs' in Audacity..

Hello,

Some time ago I read about this program here which can do what you want:

SoundEngine Free ver.2.93 Realeased 2003/03/04 465KB

http://www.cycleof5th.com/en/index.htm

I have run it in Win98, 2000 and presently in XP without problems.

Bye

If it's just for getting the songs out of the wav-file, you can try to
find your LP in cuesheet heaven:

http://www.regeert.nl/cuesheet/

If the LP is in the database, you can create a cuesheet for any cd
burning program to write the tracks on a cd.

Best - absolute best - I know for that is CDWave.

It is <gasp> shareware but with a generous trial and is uncrippled.

The above with a cue sheet maybe.

Hello, John!

CueMaster + musiCutter work great for mp3 files:

http://cuemaster.host.sk/

This program allows you to find the CD on FreeDB.org and convert it
straight into a CUE sheet that can be used by musiCutter.

http://musicutter.szm.sk/

This is an mp3 and ogg vorbis joiner/cutter (without need to decode and
reencode) and cut points can be imported from CUE sheets.

Kindly regards.

Thanks Anne. That looks pretty good. I think however...

"Free version allows you to record and edit a single, stereo or mono,
one minute audio track. "

may make it too crippled for what I want.

Thanks Jörg. I know nothing about audio editing. Is there a "how to"
somewhere and/or program that you/others might recommend to do
such a cuesheet ?

Basically, a cuesheet is an index of contents of a cd.

Have a look here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuesheet

especially the chapter example/tutorial.
