Is there a way to customize the amount of postings on a newsgroup site (for
instance, only the last 5 days)? So far, I have been deleting them manually.
Also, on my OE folders column next to this newsgroup listing there is a
number (45,252). Is this the number of postings ? Is this taking up space
on my computer? If so, how do I reduce the number. I cannot see a large qty
of posting. Sorry, this is really basic stuff but I'm fairly new to
postings and computers. Thanks for your patience.

Hi, Barbara.

For lots of good advice on this and other Outlook Express questions, see MVP
Tom Koch's excellent website:

To limit the space used on your HD, you can set OE to delete messages just a
few days after you download them by clicking Tools | Options... |
Maintenance. Note that this is the number of days after downloading, not
after the messages were posted. So if you set it to 5 days, then you
download a lot of 90-day-old messages, they will stay on your HD until your
5-day limit expires, then disappear; after that, you should have only 5 days
of messages on your HD. Note that this is a "global" setting that applies
to all NGs; we can't have a different setting for each NG. Also note that
this only deletes the messages from your own HD; it does not control how
long the messages remain available on your news server's HD - or on
Microsoft's news server.

Barbara,
This is slightly off topic and not a direct answer to your specific
question; however, I recommend it because it eliminates a great deal of hard
drive storage of items you will never look at again in most cases.
Go to: http://www.dougknox.com/ and click "Whats New" on the left side.
Scroll down to "Feb 2 2004" and click "Backup and Restore Your OE Mail".
Scroll down, find and click "Find and Open the OE Mail Store". Read the page
[better print it] and download and save the Script File to My Documents.
Keep it so you can use it frequently. Double click it to use it and follow
the basic instructions. NOTE: Your anto-virus will likely regard this as a
possible virus and popup a choice window. Always select "Allow this entire
script once".
This will open all OE storage folders. Select the ones pertaining to
individual Newsgroups and delete the entire sub-folder. Don't worry, the
sub-folder will be rebuilt anew the next time you visit the Newsgroup. In
the meantime, you have eliminated a bunch of stuff from storage.
