Customize Notification?????

Under Start\ Properties\Taskbar\Customize\Current Items\Behavior is
defaulted to Hide When Inactive. Can't change! No others choices can be seen
or selected.

Any help

Try resetting the settings at all: "How to Clear Past Items from the
Notification Area" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=283084).

The notification menu is present and the caret is present BUT can't change
it from "Hide When Inactive". It highlights but can't be changed to other
options
