Am a heavy user of Outlook 2002, with many custom views.
Opened Outlook this evening and found that all of my
custom views were gone from each folder except the Notes
folder. Any clues as to what happened and possible ways
to restore my custom views would be appreciated.

Custom views are stored in the .PST file, so you might want to try running
the Inbox Repair Tool against your .PST to see if it finds any errors.
Search your drive for a file named scanpst.exe and run it. Be sure to let
the program make a backup of your .PST before it starts the scan process.

Thanks for the response, Jocelyn. I tried scanpst.exe and
it did find errors which it claimed to fix. The most
obvious result was that my .pst file went from 102mb to
109mb. However, my custom views are still nowhere
in "view".
I'm puzzled by two things. One, the fact that my custom
views for the Notes folder are still intact. Two, before
I ran scanpst.exe I attempted to recreate one of the
custom views for the Tasks folder. When I tried to save
the custom view under the name of one of the missing
custom views, I got a message stating that a view with
that name already existed?! This leads me to believe that
my custom views are still there, lurking somewhere under
the surface. Registry issues? Phase of the moon?
I've been using Outlook since 1998 without any major
issues, so I suppose I should consider myself lucky.
However, if you or anyone else have any other ideas or
insights, I'd appreciate hearing them.

Unfortunately I don't know of any other way to restore the missing views,
but I will say that I seem to remember having one of my custom views
"disappear" on one or two different occasions, only to have it resurface
later for no apparent reason. (Hasn't happened lately.) So perhaps you'll
see your view again someday too :-) In the meantime, you can back up
custom views -- it's kind of a tedious process but it may be worth the time
and effort if you customize a lot like I do. Instructions can be found at
