Custom Date Format

Is it possible to customize the formatting of dates in
Excel. I keep entering, or importing, dates in the format
YYYY-MM-DD, eg 2003-10-21. I like this because it is the
correect ordering of the fields, and when they are sorted
they have the advantage of being OBVIOUSLY sorted.

But the date is always displayed as 10/21/03. I can
change it to a standard format, but not to the one I
want. Can I get my custom format in the list of possible
formats?

PS. I don't really want to enter the string: ="2003-10-23"

One way:

Format your cells with Format/Cells/Number/Custom yyyy-mm-dd

Once you apply that format, it will be available in the Custom
formats.

You could also define the format as a style that you could choose
from the dropdown in the File/Style dialog.

On the MenuBar, Format > Cells > Number Tab > Custom
yyyy/mm/dd

Tested using Excel 97SR2 on Windows 98SE,
