Cursor Disappears at start of line

Hi. Even in SAFE MODE, in Word 2002, the cursor disappears when its positioned at the first character of a sentence. Arrowing or typing one character to the right makes it reappear. Task switching away from Word to another app and back again makes it reappear. Deleting normal.dot does not fix it. In the mouse driver (control panel) "hide pointer while typing" is not checked. We have patched every driver, OS and bios. Microsoft USB mouse operates similar plugged into USB or PS2 (thinking its an IRQ conflict.)

Completely uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2002 on Windows XP Pro OS.
Trying to avoid clean installation of OS and everything else. Did not yet uninstall Norton 2004 antivirus as problem occurs in safe mode (stated above).
Any ideas?? Personal replies to my email address appreciated.
Thanks,

Did you mean Windows safe mode, or Word's safe mode?
The probability is that this is caused by an add-in and your mention of
Norton AV should provide a clue. Open Norton and disable it's office plug-in
option. This causes all kinds of grief and is completely unnecessary.
