Can anyone tell me how to change the currency format in the styles area
to match the format in the manner as when you got to Format Cell
Currency.

For some reason the justification is in the affected cell is different
for the currency format.

If you change in the Format Cell area, the reformatted currency is
right justfied. But if you change the number format to currency in the
Style area it is not right justified but it keeps it in the accounting
format justification.

thanks,

If I hit the $ icon or apply the Currency (not Currency[0]) style, I get a
numberformat of:
_($* #,##0.00_);_($* (#,##0.00);_($* "-"??_);_(@_)

But if I click on format|cells|number tab and use Currency (2 decimal places
with $), I get:
$#,##0.00

So if you want to change the style to match, you can click on:

Format|Styles
Select Currency
Click Modify
Select the Number Tab
and choose the Currency option
(Don't forget to modify the decimal places and symbol.)
(You could even specify a different custom numberformat if you wanted)

Then ok your way out.

But I don't think you're done.

Styles live in workbooks. So you just changed the style for the one workbook
you're in--not any other.

One way to change the style to make it work for future workbooks is to create a
new (or change your existing) book.xlt template workbook.

This file should be saved in your XLStart folder. (Use windows|search to find
yours if you need.)

You can modify the heck out of this book.xlt template workbook.
(Headers/footers/page layout, etc). Each new workbook that is created will be
based on this template--and will inherit your modified style.

For existing workbooks, you'll either have to modify that style (manually is
probably easiest) or use the Merge styles option:

Open a workbook that contains your modified style and then with the "bad"
workbook active:
Format|style|Merge button

Do you get the same cell alignment when you change the style to match
as when you click on formatcellsnumber tab?

When I change the style to Currency (2 decimal places with $) the text
does not align all the way to right like it does when you use
formatcellsnumber tab.

I got the same alignment.

There's an alignment tab under the modify button. Maybe there's a difference
there for you.

(any chance you modified the alignment for your other cell?)

The Merge Cells under Text Control in the Alignment tab is checked off.
It is also not lit up, so I can't change it. Could this be the root of
my Styles problem?

I don't think so.

I think that this just means you can't change "mergedness" by changing styles.
