I cannot add a new program to my computer a window comes up telling me
C:\ProgramFiles\Common
Files\install shield\engine\6\Intel 32\ctor.dll is being used by another
programme or user

Can anybody advise as to how I over come this so that i can install new
programmes

I'm sorry. No, it's not an adware.
Try this:
Start>Run and type in without the quotes:
"regsvr32 /u C:\ProgramFiles\Common
Files\install shield\engine\6\Intel 32\ctor.dll"
