I am trying to install the patch for the worm virus on
Windows XP Home from the c drive, and I am getting a
message that the cryptographic service is not enabled. Do
you know how to enable this service? Thanks.

Hi Dennis I am getting the same message. Someone at

the microsoft hotline talked me through the process, but
it did not help. THe cryptographic service IS enabled,
but the same message appears again and again. THey are
supposed to call me back after looking into the matter.
If they get it resolved I will post back here.

Are YOU getting the following error when you try to install Windows XP
Service Pack 1?
"Service Pack 1 Setup Error:
Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf. Make sure the
Cryptographic service is running on this computer"
Or
YOU are trying to install the Windows XP security patch 823980 - in
response to the msblast.exe worm and you are getting a similar error
message.

find Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 326815 it will

walk you throuh the process of starting crypt service or
re naming log file if that doesn't work.
