Ok, I get this message when I try to download and
install: "Setup could not verify the integrity of the
UPDATE.INF file. Please make sure that the Cryptographic
service on your computer is running"

I've already tried the following:

1. Start the Administrative Tools utility in your
Control Panel.
2. Double-click Services.
3. Right-click "Cryptographic Services", and then
click Properties.
4. Click "Automatic" for Startup type, and then click
Start.
5. Try installing the Updates again. If the problem
persists, go to Step 6.
6. Click Start, and then click Run.
7. In the Open box, type: CMD , and then click OK.
8. At the Command Prompt, type (or Copy & Paste) the
following commands,
each individually, pressing ENTER after each line:

net stop cryptsvc

ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2

net start cryptsvc

Type EXIT to close the command prompt, and then
install the patch again.

It still doesn't work for me. What is the problem? Any
solutions? Is my computer messed up in another way?
Please help.

I am having the exact same problem.
I found the file that we're supposed to change, however it
is a "read only" file. I'm not sure how to get around
that. My Cryptographic thing is set to automatic but for
some reason it still says it can't verify the downloaded
file. I'm not real sure what else to do either.
I REALLY WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP!!!

Heather :)

Hi, Heather. Nice to see someone else with my problem. No
one seems to know what to do with this, though. Haven't
gotten a response everytime I bring it up.

Another interesting thing, I don't have the Blaster virus
on my comp. I can't find it under Task Manager or the
System32 folder. I even used a remover for the virus. It
said I didn't have that virus on my comp....weird.

Hi Joanna and Heather,

Try these steps:
Click Start, then click Run
In the Run line, type in dcomcnfg and click OK
double click Services
locate the Cryptographic Services in the right window pane, then right
click on it and click Stop
Rename the C:\WINDOWS\System32\Catroot2 folder (just right click the Start
button and click Explore, then in the left window pane start at C and work
your way down the folder path, locate the Catroot2 folder, right click it,
click Rename, and type in Catroot2old, then press Enter)
Close Windows Explorer
click Start, then click Run
enter each following line one at a time, then click OK, you should get a
message that the operation succeeded, you have to do these one at a time:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
When you're done with that, start the Cryptographic services again, then
run the patch, it should run ok this time.

hope this helps!

Mike
