I am interested in being automatically notified of
Windows XP Critical Updates. However when
I go to Control Panel/System/Automatic Updates,
I am told that the service is "No Longer Available".
Can someone tell me why this is so, and is there any
likelihood of this position being reversed.
Thank you in advance. Crockett

Hi Crockett

Try this:

Start>Run - then type in "services.msc" - without the quotes. Make sure that the 'Automatic Updates' Service has been started. If not right click on it and select 'Start'. Have a look in the 'Startup Type' column - it should be set to 'Automatic'. If this isn't the case, right click on that Service, select Properties and then in the 'Startup Type:' drop down menu, select Automatic. You will have to reboot for the change to take effect.
