I've read that there are "issues" with the following two critical updates:
821557 and 823980

What is the general consensus regarding the average home user installing
these two updates? I should add that I'm currently using the Google beta
tool bar and I have SP1 on XP Home. Thank you.

The 821557 could *conceivably* be used in conjunction with making a
trojan to install the file on a machine via an internet connection. The
other is one of the ones connected with attacks on a server, and is not
likely - it can be kept out with a firewall anyway. I would not
bother with them myself

I installed them yesterday. Since then my computer has
rebooted itself for no reason twice. Coincidence? I
don't think so. I would recommend against installing for
now.
You do know that "reboots" are an excellent hint that your system encountered a STOP error, don't you?
It rebooted beacuse your system is set to the default: which is "reboot on error".
You should find out what those are.....
Go into your Control Panel, system properties, in the "Advanced" TAB and
in the recovery section....click the "settings" button.
"Un-check" the "automatically restart" line. Do the apply change, make
clean exit.

This will prevent a "reboot on error", and will also show (when you have Win exception) the error code and its description. Which you then document, and follow up on fixes. *Something* is causing an error which leads to your system rebooting.
