Hi everyone,

I have a very strange problem. I have a bunch of Windows XP Pro machines
that are all logged on using the same username. Everything has been working
fine for over a year. Now, one day, suddenly they are all prompting me for
a password to connect to my server (Win2K). It doesn't matter if I try to
access the server using a UNC path, the web browser or anything else. Its
like this server no longer is accepting the username and password. These
machines are able to access other servers in the domain no problem however.

I had this problem once before and I "fixed" it by destroying the user's
account and creating a new one of the user. If you have any ideas at all
please post them, I am at a total loss and getting frustrated :-)

Cheers,

Ken.

Have you changed the password to this account recently?
Windows XP will store old passwords for certain
applications that require user authentication. Go to
Control Panel > User Accounts > Advanced > Managed
Passwords. If there are any hostnames listed in
the 'stored user names and passwords' dialog box, remove
them. See if that works.

Did you recently do anything to the server? Was the guest account enabled before? Is
it also a domain member? Try running netdiag on it looking for any failed tests that
may help. Enable auditing of logon events on that server to see what reason the logon
failures report. Look in Event Viewer on that server for any pertinent info. ---
