Creating shortcuts for DOS Programs

XP will not allow me to create a short cut to the desktop
for a DOS based program. I ran the Program Compatibility
wizard, worked OK, and am able to start the program from
Run, but we use this program everyday and it would be
helpful to able to have a shortcut.

Also, when I create a new shortcut, I step through
inputing the target fine, but when choosing an icon for
the shortcut, none show up. Hitting the Finish button
does nothing.

PCW has nothing to do with Dos. So that was a waste of time. What wizard. The Shortcut wizard doesn't allow you to choose icons.

When you create a new shortcut on the desktop, I can type
in the location, name the icon, but when selecting the
picture of the icon, there is nothing to choose. I try
to hit the finish button and it does nothing. I can
easily add other shortcuts to the desktop, but this one
is giving trouble. Also, when I explore to the .exe file
and right click to send to desktop, I get a "disk is
full" message.

Based upon your earlier msg., I am not using the PCW
wizard, and I understand your reply. Please read when I
had stated:

Please tell me if I missing something from your msg.

Right drag the .exe file to the desktop, take Create shortcut, and it
should work. If it doesn't please tell us what happens.

Note that you cannot do this for a bat file and have a DOS shortcut (it
makes a Windows .lnk file one). But you can make one to a DOS .exe and
then edit the properties of the shortcut (a pif file) to change the
extension in the command line on the program page
