Creating Profiles...?

I use Win XP w/ OL 2002 and I have a question pertaining to configuring more
than one porfile.

This is what I want to do... I want to have the ability to go to work, plug
in to the T-1, get my mail using one provider, then take my laptop home, and
plug into our DSL via another provider. Can I have two profiles that
dump/send mail from the same outlook?

Why not use the same profile all the time? If you can authenticate to your
SMTP server in one profile and use it anywhere, you don't need to change
anything ever.

Yes, you can use two profiles that reference the same PST but use different
accounts to do so.

I think the problem is I can't authenticate to the various servers. Here is
my problem in greater detail.

My work email/domain are managed through a company called RCN. They host my
mail and will host my future website. I am in shared office space and my
landlord leases T-1 lines. At work I use a dial up with my Thinkpad. My
mail then dumps into that computer. At home, I USED to use a dial up with
my home (Gateway) PC or my Work (IBM) laptop to again dial into RCN to
get/send my work email.

I recently installed SBC DSL at home and had to change the Outgoing Mail
Server SMTP Tab in the Tools/Options/Email Accounts to reflect the SBC
server name on my Gateway PC, it formerly had a RCN designation. My home
system seems to be running okay. However, I don't think I can do the same
at work using a T-1 as it is provided by Sprint. I was hoping to use the
T-1 to access my work email, but it won't work. I was told as an initiative
to cut down on SPAM, many organization(SBC, Sprint, Verizon) are NOT
permitting the authentication that I need to access my mail.

I though two profiles might solve my problem or part of it. I thought I
could use one profile to access my work emails at home and work using my
ThinkPad and another profile profile to only use at work. I was hoping to
toggle between the two and having my mail dump into the same PC regard less
of locale.

If I am missing something, please explain.

Thanks for your effort thus far.

Could you explain this. Also, I posted a reply to the other responder.
That may shed more light on my issue.

Thanks.

You can use two profiles, or you can see if http://www.ashemimry.com/ helps,
or, as I suggested, just find out if any one of the various SMTP servers you
use can be used with authentication from any network you connect to. Most
I've worked with allow this.

In each profile you have now, don't you have a Outlook Data File service
that points to a particular PST? There's nothing that prevents those
services from pointing to the same PST so that, no matter which profile you
use (since you're using them for different authentication), the mail wil
still be delivered to the same PST.

Of course, if you're using Exchange in one profile, this doesn't apply.

Thanks you.
