Creating drop-down options from fields in other tables?

Apologies for this somewhat basic query, but I'd be
grateful if someone could help.

I am creating a database in Access 2000 with two related
tables, one with the names of Companies, and the other
with various Contacts. I have created drop-down answer
boxes for various fields, usually via 'List Box'
in 'Display Control', and 'Value List' in 'Row Source
Type', in Table Design. For the company field in my
Contacts table, I want to create a drop-down using the
companies listed in my Company Database table, although
this does not seem to work. I have made sure that the
company fields in the two tables are related and I have
set the drop-down option up using 'Combo Box' for Display
Control, 'Table/Query' for Row Source Type, and my
Company Database table for 'Row Source', but I only seem
to get the option of an ID column number when I try to
create a new contact. I have tried to change the 'Bound
Column' to align the drop-down options with the company
column in my Company Database table, but this does not
change anything.

Do you know what I am doing wrong?

Thanks,
Adrian cornwall

Dear Adrian:

Some of the terminology you use makes this difficult to understand.

A 'List Box' does not drop down. A 'Combo Box' does. Which do you
mean?

A Value List does not show a list of the Companies in your table. You
would need a RowSource that is a query or the actual table of
Companies in any situation with which I'm familiar.

Having the relationship between Companies and Contacts is a good
thing, but is not essential to get your form working. Or are you
working in the datasheets here?

It's going to take some additional information to be able to begin to
help you.
