creating and using forms on MS Word 2002

I just started working with the forms tool bar to create fillable forms. According to the text book I am using, if I "protect" the form, someone can then fill it out on a web page without moving elements of the form around as one types on the form. Or the form can be printed out and filled in by pen. What I find is that, if I want to create a form and then fill it out on the computer, I cannot figure out how to "protect" the form. In other words, if I create a form, hit the lock icon on the tool bar, and then start filling out the form, elements on the form move around. Is there a way to prevent this, or is the Word Forms program not made to use in the fashion I describe. I know OmniForm 5.0 provides forms that one can fill out after one creates it. Harry T

What you want to use are tables when you fill out forms. This way you can
place a bottom border of a cell and the cell locks the data in (as long as
it isn't longer then the cell). Check out the following link for more info:

What you are talking about is what Word calls an "online form." Check this
in help. For more about online forms, follow the links at

Chapman's series of articles. You'll be an expert in no time!

Hope this helps,
