I'm trying to create a word document that allows me to e-mail it to others so
they can insert text without disrupting the layout of the document. For
example, an e-form that allows address and telephone numbers to be inserted
without disrupting the rest of the document.

Thanks!

You could use what Word calls an "online form." Check this in help. For more
about online forms, follow the links at
http://addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms or
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/FillinTheBlanks.htm especially Dian
Chapman's series of articles. You may also want to look at
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/LinesInForms.htm.

You would email your form as an attachment to an email.

Hope this helps,
