In HowTo-Outlook.com Newsletter Issue 27: Creating a
Permanent New Mail Desktop Alert in Outlook 2003 by Roady
[MVP-Outlook], he describes how to set the New Mail
Desktop Alert for up to 50 days. The instructions call
for editing the registry
(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
\Common\DesktopAlerts\TimeOn).

My registry has no "DesktopAlerts" entry
in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
\Common\".

Now what!

Thanks

Bob

Manually create it or modify the display time once by using Outlook. This
will create the key. If the key doesn't exist it will display the alert for
7 seconds.

In Regedit
Edit-> New-> Key; name it "DesktopAlerts" (without quotes but case
sensitive)
Edit-> New-> DWORD; name it "TimeOn" (without quotes but case sensitive)

Or in Outlook
Tools-> Options-> tab General-> button E-mail Options-> button Advanced
E-mail Options-> button Desktop Alert

Tips of the month:
-Properly back-up and restore your Outlook data
-Creating a Permanent New Mail Desktop Alert in Outlook 2003

In my version of OUTLOOK 2003 I found it under Tools->
Preferences-> E-mail Options...-> Advanced E-mail
Options...-> Desktop Alert Settings... . There I
found "sliders" for adjusting Transparency and Duration
(7 to 30 seconds). I adjusted to 30 seconds and closed
out. I then went to the registry and the key had been
created and I was able to modify it. Thanks for your help!
